China Desalination Market to Triple by 2015
SAN LEANDRO, Calif., April 2, 2012-Energy Recovery Inc. (NASDAQ:ERII), a global leader in the design and development of energy recovery devices for desalination and other industrial processes, today announced that the Company was selected to supply its PX Pressure Exchanger(TM) (PX) energy recovery devices for a power plant in Haiyang, Shandong Province, China. Once completed, the plant will have a daily production capacity of 16,000 cubic meters (4.2 million gallons) per day of water supply.
According to China's top economic planning agency, the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), the country's five-year plan includes tripling China's desalination capacity by 2015 to more than two million cubic meters (528 million gallons) per day of water.
Dozens of new desalination plants are planned throughout the country. ERI has been supplying its PX energy recovery devices for municipal and industrial uses throughout China for more than a decade, with an estimated 500,000 cubic meters (132 million gallons) of water per day in production. The country's aggressive strategy will provide an essential resource that will help to address the country's population and industrial growth.
