ERI Awarded PX Technology Contract for Israel's Largest Desalination Expansion Project

Palmachim Expansion Plant to Utilize ERI's Newest PX Energy Recovery Solution, Enabling 99% Uptime

SAN LEANDRO, Calif., February 28, 2012-Energy Recovery Inc (NASDAQ:ERII), a leader in the design and development of energy recovery devices for desalination and other industrial processes, today announced that Global Environmental Solutions (GES) has selected the company's industry-leading PX Pressure Exchanger(TM) (PX) devices for the largest desalination plant expansion in Israel. The increase in plant capacity, scheduled for completion in early 2013, will include ERI's newest and most advanced line of products (PX-Q series) to be delivered in 2012.

GES chose the market-leading PX devices based on ERI's uniquely strong track record of providing high-availability systems for large-scale desalination plants. Unmatched performance in high efficiency combined with exceptional reliability and small footprint were critical factors in GES's decision to use PX devices for the Palmachim plant expansion. The PX-Q product line guarantees the highest available efficiency, best overall performance, and the benefits of sound reduction. Upon completion, the newly expanded plant will deliver an extra 150,000 cubic meters per day (39 million gallons per day) of water to reach a total capacity of 300,000 cubic meters per day (79 million gallons per day).

"When GES was planning the new plant expansion, we knew that we needed to maintain our 99% plant availability. Our previous experience with the PX solution indicates it is the most reliable ERD technology available, which is why we selected ERI's solution," said Avner Hermony, CEO of Via Maris Desalination O&M.  "We wanted to ensure that our plant operations perform at 100% capacity without incurring unplanned and expensive maintenance shut-downs, and ERI was the most attractive option."

"We are very pleased to work with GES on this important project to double their water capacity while obtaining substantial savings in operational costs," said Tom Rooney, chief executive officer of Energy Recovery Inc. "With a guaranteed uptime of 99.8% and a design life of 25 years, our PX devices will surely be critical to providing essential fresh water supplies for years to come."
