Egypt Plant Utilizes ERI's Energy Saving Solution to Secure Water Supply
SAN LEANDRO, Calif., March 22, 2012-Energy Recovery Inc (NASDAQ:ERII), a global leader in the design and development of energy recovery devices for desalination and other industrial processes, today announced that the Egyptian Armed Forces will purchase its industry-leading PX Pressure Exchanger(TM) (PX) devices for the largest desalination plant in Egypt. The plant is scheduled to produce water by 2013. The region, plagued by excessive drought and political turmoil is building a new desalination facility that will be twice as large as Egypt's largest desalination plant built to date.
The project, designed and built by Spanish company, DESALIA, S.L., will secure a water supply for the region. DESALIA, one of the leaders in small and medium size seawater RO units, has used PX devices in many of its 38 plants installed to date, outside of Spain. The selection of ERI and its leading PX-300 technology ensures that water needs will be met reliably, and with the most energy efficient technology available. The plant will be located in Marsa Matrouh in the north-west region of Egypt bordering Libya, with a total capacity of 24,000 cubic meters/day (5.5 million gallons/day).
"The desalination industry experienced a slowdown in the Middle East due to unrest in the region. It is nice to see that a significant project is underway in Egypt, as it might indicate stabilization in the area. We are very pleased that the Army selected ERI's technology for the largest desalination project ever built in Egypt," said Tom Rooney, chief executive officer of Energy Recovery Inc. "We have been providing PX devices in this region for more than a decade, and we are very pleased to see a project of this size moving forward."
